Interpretation on a Theme by Western Australian contemporary textile artists will show at the Community Access Gallery of the West Australian Museum-Fremantle (Fremantle Arts Centre Complex, 1 Finnerty Street, Fremantle) to 22nd August 2008. It is supported by the Embroiderer’s Guild of Western Australia and the Western Australian Museum.

At Freemantle Arts Centre (www.fac.org.au) : ART/PAPER/WORK: a fluid social landscape. GRAHAM HAY documents and maps the names, patterns and currency of the arts and comments via paper and paperclay sculptures and installations, 6-14 September, 2008. Thereafter, the Curtin University STAFF SHOW will be held (20-28 Sept), an annual event which is a collaborative exhibition of contemporary works by the lecturers and staff of the Dept of Art, Curtin University of Technology (including those who work in Fibre/Textile: Moira Doropoulos, Pamela Gaunt and Annette Seeman).

From 6-13 November 2008 you can see TEXTILE TREASURES – works by members of the Designing Women group. This takes place at Atwell Gallery, Canning Highway, Alfred Cove.

Tragedy, Treasure and Trade: Contemporary Textiles and Embroidery by Innovative Stitches Group to 22 August 2008 at Community Access Gallery, West Australian Museum - Fremantle History, 1 Finnerty Street, Fremantle (in Fremantle Arts Centre complex, entrance opposite the gift shop). Mon - Fri 10am - 4.30pm, Sat and Public Holidays 1 - 5pm, Sun 10.30am - 4.30pm. Entry $2 donation. This exhibition portrays the early Dutch exploration of the Western Australian coastline as interpreted through the medium of textiles and embroidery by members of the Innovative Stitches Group of the Embroiderers Guild of WA. The exhibition will be on display until 22 August 2008 and includes wearable art as well as 2- and 3-dimensional works and artists’ sketchbooks. Visitors will be able to take a closer look at the sketchbooks on 6th July and 10th August from 1 - 3pm when a number of the artists will be available to answer questions about the works. The RESIDENCY MUSEUM is staging an exhibition, Four Women’s Stories until the end of 2008. “The lives of four women from different eras and backgrounds are told using their own words.. The whole exhibition revolves around a stunning selection of the Residency’s museum objects, many of which have never been seen in public before. There are many examples of textiles, embroidery and decorative arts…. HOUSE OF TARVYDAS, Aug 22 – Oct 10, Curated by Anne Farren. “House of Tarvydas will be a major survey of Ruth Tarvydas’s work form her first collection in 1968 to the present. Tarvydas’s career and significance to local industry will be illustrated through the presentaiotn of key works, images and media. As well, Looking Out: The Internationalisation of Western Australian Fashion (also curated by Anne Farren) has the same dates and “will present other key contemporary Western Australian fashion designers whose work ahs an international focus as well as reflecting the dynamice and innovative nature of fashon design in WA. This pair announces they have finalized their Pollard Designs program which encourages people to gather at their studio and work on art along with learning new and wonderful ways to manipulate and create with fabric. There will also be an INDIGO MASTER CLASS (Trudi has designed this day to have an intense look at Indigo and Shibori techniques).
