DIARY OF THE TREES is a project by Environmental Sculptor, Evette Sunset in three acts, with the trees as the central character, tracing the evolution of Hahndorf’s treescape from pre-settlement through to the present day. The first part of the installation (Act 1) took part in late July when the creek bed and Indigenous trees were set in place on the traditional lands of the Peramangk people. Act 2 is from 30 July – 5 August: “Flags representing the huge variety of productive European trees introduced by the German migrants will be ‘planted’ in a layout which shows the settlers’ evolution of the landscape. Some of the Indigenous ‘landscape’ will be felled to build the township.” Act 3: What we can do (6-12 August): The Indigenous trees will return to the scene in wind breaks and copses, representing our changed awareness of the history of our landscape and the way it can further evolve through conservation and land care.” This is a Sala Festival project (South Australian Living Artists) and is presented by the Hahndorf Academy Regional Arts & Heritage.

The nation's first major national Indigenous travelling art exhibition (from the National Gallery of Australia), was launched at the Art Gallery of South Australia in June, 2008.
